Adult Braces Are Not What they Used to Be

Adult BracesAdult braces, which were once considered a novelty by many, have now become a growing trend. This is because the vast majority of people seeking to have their teeth straightened are now adults. There was a time when people who had reached adulthood believed that they were stuck with the teeth nature had given them. However, with the increased popularity of adult braces, this misconception is rapidly fading away. Today, more and more adults are seeking orthodontic treatment to improve their smile. There is a certain degree of satisfaction in working with adults who want to get their teeth fixed. Since adults are typically more compliant in following treatment instructions, the results adults get with braces are just as good and sometimes better. By carefully following the instructions provided by our office, adults have found that they can enhance the results and shorten the treatment timeline, which means they only have to wear their adult braces for a short period of time. As the industry has grown more prevalent, we have the option of offering a wide variety of adult braces types to deal with misaligned teeth treatments. Regardless of whether you choose to have traditional braces, ceramic braces, or even more advanced technology, with the proper help, you can achieve and maintain a beautiful and healthy smile.

Braces Are Not What they Used to Be

One of the restrictions that caused many adults to shy away from braces was the fact that the traditional braces have a reputation for turning you into a metal mouth. However, traditional metal braces, especially the adult braces we use, have progressed with the times and are noticeably smaller. In fact, with traditional metal braces, we use heat-activated arch wire that moves your teeth far more quickly, is less uncomfortable, and responds to your body’s heat. Since traditional metal braces are still considerably less expensive than some of the alternative options, it is a good solution for people who are on a budget and do not mind showing some metal as they strive to get their teeth straightened. Similar to metal braces are lingual braces, which use the same metal wires and brackets as traditional metal braces, though the wires and brackets are installed on the inside of the teeth, which makes them far harder to see. Lingual braces are an excellent alternative for adult braces patients when they want to make sure they are not flashing a mouth full of metal every time they smile.

Another option that has become extremely popular in the adult braces category are ceramic braces. Ceramic braces are almost identical to metal braces, with one outstanding difference. Ceramic braces use ceramic posts that are attached to the back of the teeth. In addition, they used tooth-colored archwires, which makes it so you can almost never see the ceramic braces. Ceramic is a substance used to make fake teeth, so when we designed ceramic braces, as an advanced alternative to adult braces, we ensured that they are almost completely camouflaged. For patients who want to have braces that are completely invisible, the best option is Invisalign®. Invisalign® consists of a series of customizable clear plastic aligners that are removed and replaced every two weeks and gradually move your teeth into the right alignment. As far as adult braces go, Invisalign® is by far the least obvious.

We encourage you to call our office to learn more about these and other options.
