Teeth StraighteningIf you are seriously considering a teeth straightening procedure, then you need to know all of the different options that are available for you to achieve this process. When you visit our orthodontist office, you are taking the first step towards a perfectly straight and beautiful smile. However, you may find that there are more options and choices to choose from than you expected. As such, it is important for you to come in for an initial consultation where we can go over the amount of teeth straightening you need, what your goals are, and then explain all the different options that you have for completing the process.

At this initial consultation, we are also going to be addressing a realistic timeline and expectations. One of the things that you need to remember when you visit us for teeth straightening, no matter which treatment option you choose, is that Rome was not built in a day. It takes years for teeth to grow in incorrectly, and so it is going to take some time to get them to be properly aligned. Luckily for you, we have some of the best options available, and can provide you with a comprehensive service, in order to make sure that your teeth straightening goes according to plan.  Keeping that in mind, here are two of the more common options that are used for teeth straightening.

Traditional Metal Braces

Traditional braces are the tried-and-true method for straightening teeth and have been around for a very long time. The technology continues to improve and so the traditional braces that you are going to be using are significantly smaller than the ones we used to use twenty years ago. Traditional metal braces work using metal brackets and wires. This metal bracket is secured in place and a thin metal wire is threaded through the back of the bracket which is secured using rubber bands.  These rubber bands are used to tighten the braces slowly, ensuring that your teeth move along a specific path in order to get your teeth straightening accomplished within a set period of time.  There are pros with having traditional braces for teeth straightening, including the fact that they are the most cost-effective means of getting straighter teeth.  On the flip side, traditional braces are going to be pretty obvious every time you smile.

For patients who have a more discreet bend, there are ceramic braces.  Ceramic braces are extremely hard to see because they are designed to be camouflaged by your natural teeth. The way that we accomplish this camouflage is ensuring that the brackets we place on your teeth are made of ceramic and are exactly the same color as your regular teeth. Ceramic is typically used to create fake teeth, so your braces are going to blend perfectly. In addition, the wires are also made of a tooth-colored material which helps with the blending process. It is not recommended that you use ceramic braces for children because ceramic braces stain very easily, and they cannot be cleaned unless you’re willing to replace the entire ceramic piece. For adults, however, who are interested in teeth straightening, ceramic braces may be a perfect option.

We can explain your options in further detail during a consultation.
